Homemade Easter Ideas

There are many Homemade Easter Ideas that one can use for this holiday.

Easter is all about Jesus' Resurrection and Salvation. It's a great time to participate in evangelism. Click here for a Free Easter Brochure to help promote your Easter events and activities.

There is a Christian saying that "prophets died, saints died, great men died - none of them ever returned to life. When Jesus died some people remembered that he had foretold his resurrection..."

So it is a time to celebrate. To celebrate that our Lord, who appeared on Earth for the good of mankind, is always with us.

A lot of churches have homemade easter ideas. Several of them will have a play of "The Passion" that tells us all about how Jesus loved us so much that he gave his life on the cross for you and for me that we can have everlasting life. Because he lives we can see tomorrow! There is a flyer below for "The Passion".

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” John 1:14

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup whole pecans
  • 1 Teaspoon Vinegar
  • 3 Egg whites
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • Zipper baggie
  • Tape
  • Bibie
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Place the pecans in the baggie and let the kids beat them with the wooden spoon to break them into pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3
  • 2. Put the vinegar into a mixing bowl. Let each child smell the vinegar. Explain that when Jesus was on the cross and He became thirsty, He was offered vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30
  • 3. Add the egg whites to the vinegar. The eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave His life so that we could have life. Read John 10:10-11
  • 4. Sprinkle a little salt into each child’s hand and let them taste it. Put the rest into a bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus’ followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27
  • 5. So far the ingredients are not very appetizing. Add 1 cup of sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because He loves us. He wants us to know and belong to Him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16
  • 6. Beat the egg whites with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes, until stiff peaks form. Explain that the color white represents the purity in God’s eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3
  • 7. Fold in the broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto a wax paper cookie sheet. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus body was laid to rest. Read Matthew 27:57-60
  • 8. Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven off.
  • 9. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the door. Explain that Jesus tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66
  • 10. Go to bed. Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight and that Jesus followers were in despair when the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20-22
  • 11. On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! On the First Easter, Jesus’ followers were amazed to find His tomb empty. Yes, Jesus Lives! Read Matthew 28:1-9

Easter Egg Hunt and Party Invite the community to a free Easter Egg Hunt and outdoor party (see flyer below). Activity ideas:

  • Egg hunt with candy filled plastic eggs
  • Face Painting
  • Snacks
  • Games
  • Puppet Show
  • Kids comedian
  • Play live Kids Christian Music
  • Give every kid a bag to hold his/her eggs with invitation to church.
  • Announce in your invitation the events that the kids will be doing on Easter Sunday at church. Example: Watch a movie about Jesus and have an Easter snack.
  • Invite the parents to the Easter morning service.

Easter Egg Hunt with Resurrection Eggs

Resurrection Eggs can be created or bought - each plastic egg has an object pertaining to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Colorful plastic eggs with visual reminders are a proven learning tool for children 3 and up.

Have the children that find the resurrection eggs to sit down and listen to a story regarding Jesus' Resurrection. Have pictures of the items on a poster board and have the children hold them up during the story.

After the story, emphasize Jesus' sacrifice and have the children sacrifice their eggs, ect. with the knowledge that they will receive something better at the end of the event/day - just as Jesus knew that his sacrifice would bring something better in the end!

While they have free time, have some helpers divide the eggs evenly and put prizes which say "He is Risen" (you can purchase from the Oriential Trading Company or make your own) in their bags. Then have the children come back and receive their gifts. This makes a wonderful tool to further the knowledge of Jesus and Easter to our children.

If you don't want to do the Resurrection Eggs, you can type up some Bible scriptures regarding Jesus' Passion - then print, cut them out, put in plastic eggs and let the children who found them read their scriptures one by one.
