I have no experience could I still do this?

There is an opening for part-time church secretary at the church where I am currently a paid nursery attendant. My youngest in in kindergarten this year so I thought a part time job would be perfect. 9-12 M-F. They ask for knowledge of excel and publisher with organizational skills. I have worked with excel many years ago in college and don't remember a whole lot about it. I am not highly organized but not a complete mess either. If something is organized I can keep it that way. Before I turn in my resume I want to know if this job is something I can learn on the way. I haven't worked in about 10 years and never at any kind of secretary job. The current secretary quit about 3-4 months ago and the pastor has been doing that job. Am I smart enough to do this? Given a chance I can pretty much learn any software program but as of now I don't know. I'm guessing since I haven't worked in 10 years starting any kind of new job is a little daunting. I haven't even turned in my resume yet cause I can't think of what to say to make them want me!!
ReplyThis is certainly a decision you will have to make on your own, but my advise would be to give it a try. If your Pastor is doing it himself then he is very overwhelmed right now and I'm sure would appreciate even an inexperienced secretary.
If you feel comfortable with learning different softwares then I believe you will be able to learn. The only way to learn is to repeatedly work in these programs. If your doing part-time and not full-time this will also help because there will be less stress.
As far as what to say to make him want to chose you, just present yourself as you are and be honest, and let him know you are willing to learn and ready to take the challenge.
I would definitely pray about it first though because you want God's will in any job position that you seek.
I hope this helps a little. I will be praying for God to lead and guide you.
God Bless You,
