Veterans Day Activities and Ideas
Veterans Day Activities and Ideas such as the Veterans Day Letters, Veterans Day Posters...for your Sunday School children to enjoy making.
Veterans Day Activities and IdeasLittle Things Mean A Whole Lot –Veterans Day Letters Writing letters to soldiers/veterans in your church is something you might like your children (depending on their age you might have to help them) in your Sunday School class to participate in for Veterans Day. You can include other ideas/gifts besides a letter if you want. Here are some Veterans Day letter samples below you can download and use. Here are also some guidelines to use for your letters: - Address each letter “Dear Hero” or “Dear Defender of Freedom” - This will avoid titles that would limit who the letter is going to such as “Dear Marine” we could not give to an Airman…it would be an insult.
- Thank him/her for their service - You can have them put this in their own words as long as thank them for serving our great country, America.
- Send a snapshot or photo - The troops overseas or veterans at home love seeing who wrote the letter, so feel free to include a family photo with your letter.
- Have children draw a picture - Pictures drawn by children are a very popular to the veterans/soldiers for one of your Veterans Day activities. It’s a constant reminder of who they are fighting to protect or who they have already fought to protect.
Church Honoring Veterans on Veterans Day Here are some more Veterans Day activities for the church. A special get together with family, friends and church family is always wonderful. Have a formal ceremony where the young men of the age group (13 and up) could present the colors (the Christian Flag and the American Flag) with all rising to sing “God Bless America”, “Onward Christian Soldiers”, etc. immediately followed with the pledge to the Christian flag and the Pledge of Allegiance. Each family, group of friends and church family usually has someone that can speak well, now would be the time to present a 15 minute discussion about why Veterans Day should be honored from a Christian worldview. If possible, encourage all to bring pictures of family momentos of any family member(s) that has served the United States during war as either a soldier or a support person. It is so important to our young people to recognize and be aware of how much others have sacrificed so they might have freedom today. Close the portion of the gathering with the oldest male (i.e., patriarch) leading prayer followed with everyone verbally saying the Lord’s Prayer and/or the 23rd Psalm. Veterans Day Posters Veterans Day activities can start before Veterans Day. Shortly before Veterans Day, encourage your Sunday School class to design Veterans Day posters expressing the meaning of this hold and how important that is must be recognized to be posted in the church, local library, post office, community bulletin board or other community places. What Would it be Like to be a Veteran/Soldier Have your Sunday School class to write a paper on…what is would be like to be a soldier/veteran in World War I, World War II, etc. Also, what it would be like to be the family member waiting and praying for their soldier…the heavy price of freedom and liberty…etc. Veterans Day Military Branches Have your Sunday School class to make a collage of the various military branches in the United States of America such as the Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army, and Coast Guard, and learn a little bit about each branch.
