All-American Flag Cake

No patriotic celebration would be complete without an All-American Flag Cake!
You Need:

  • 9x13 inch cake pan (decorate your cake in the baking pan if your going to bring outside very far like in back yard)
  • White or Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 Large Bowl of Cool Whip
  • 2 Pints of Strawberries
  • 1 Pint of Blueberries
Step-by-Step Instructions:
  • Prepare cake according to your instructions on the cake mix box and let cake cool.
  • Wash and drain the blueberries on paper towels.
  • Wash and drain the strawberries. Stem them and cut them into halves.
  • Spread the cool whip icing generously over the entire cake. Need to refrigerate cake after your finished due to the cool whip icing.
  • In the top left-hand corner of the frosted cake arrange the blueberries into an outline of a rectangle that is 5 inches wide and 4 inch tall. Press the blueberries down into the frosting.
  • Fill the blueberry outline in with the remaining blueberries (in rows look better: icing between them resemble stars).
  • Place strawberry halves cut side down in rows going across the cake horizontally. The bottom stripe of the flag is red so start first row at the bottom. Be sure and press the strawberries down into the frosting so the so the stripes will not be raised above the fluffy frosting. (If you want to be technical, there are 13 stripes on the flag).
  • Serve any leftover berries with the sliced cake and ice cream.
For a stunning holiday effect, place a couple of sparklers onto the top of the cake. When it gets dark and fireworks begin to burst, light the sparklers and serve the cake during the festivities! :)
