Happy Thanksgiving a couple of days early! I hope everyone enjoys their holiday and gives many Thanks to God for everything he has done for us.

I have the 12 Month Family Disaster Preparedness Plan below that everyone needs to please check out and apply to your family. I experienced my first earthquake here in Oklahoma a week ago and I have lived here all my life (long time). Thank God everybody survived it. It definitely got my wheels to turning and thinking about being prepared because I care about my family, church family and communities wellbeing. Don't ever say that it can't happen to you.

12 Month Family Disaster Preparedness Plan

The Family Disaster Preparedness Plan and forms are designed to walk you through all 12 months of activities and planning for a disaster and it's free to download and print. All the forms are not yet available per month but will be soon (work in progress).

Creating a Family Disaster Preparedness Plan can be a very rewarding feeling to know that you and your family are working together to make sure everyone is safe.

Disasters happen suddenly and frequently without warning. One example is if an earthquake strikes the ground will suddenly tremble and shake, sometimes violently for as long as 60 to 90 seconds. Many people's first instinct is to run, but studies are shown that people are killed or injuried as they run out of their homes so we need a set of rules or a plan to follow:

• 1. If you have not already done so, organize your family into a council and find out what disasters could happen in your area. We have just recently after living in Oklahoma all my life I experienced our first earthquake, and it definitely got me to thinking about a Family Disaster Preparedness Plan.
• 2. Begin compiling the elements of your Family Disaster Plan into a notebook such as 3-ring binder that can be kept in a central location in your home. There are disaster plan forms available to make these steps easier.
• 3. Put your plan into action by executing all the preparations, precautions and procedures in your Family Disaster Plan. This won't happen overnight or even in a month but it can be done over an extended period of time taking it step by step and that is why we have developed the 12 month plan.
• 4. Practice and maintain your plan. Review your plan every six months so everyone remembers what to do. Conduct earthquake, fire and emergency evacuation drills. Check your smoke detectors and check batteries at least once a year. Rotate and refresh your emergency food and water supplies. I'm very excited because I'm fixing to hopefully start a committee in our church for disaster planning.

This is a very important tool for any church. If an earthquake or some kind of disaster hit your area today who do you think the people would be turning to? Yes, us the churches! Are we prepared ourselves to help our church and the community.

After finishing up the forms on the 12 Month Family Disaster Preparedness Plan ASAP, I'm starting on a great Church Disaster Plan with lots of forms to you start your disaster committees at your church.

Kids Thanksgiving Treats

Marshmallow Pilgrim Hats

Here’s a treat that looks old-fashioned but is made with two favorite modern-day sweets: marshmallows and chocolate. This will fun for kids to help you make and they will certainly love them to eat!

Ingredients:

• 24 chocolate-striped shortbread cookies
• Chocolate frosting
• 12 ounce package of chocolate chips
• 24 marshmallows
• Tube of yellow decorators’ frosting or gel
• Toothpicks

Instructions:

• 1. Set the chocolate-striped cookies stripes down on a wax paper covered tray, spacing them well apart.
• 2. Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave or double boiler.
• 3. One at a time, stick a wooden toothpick into a marshmallow, dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, and promptly center it atop a cookie.
• 4. Using a second toothpick to lightly hold down the marshmallow, carefully pull out the first toothpick.
• 5. Chill hats until the chocolate sets, then pipe a yellow decorators’ frosting or gel buckle on the front of each hat.
