The Form Gallery, Issue #038 - Labor Day Ideas
July 21, 2011
Welcome:

Labor Day Ideas

I should have never complained about the heat in the last issue because it just got hotter here in Oklahoma. Please everybody help us pray for rain and some relief from this 3 digit heat.

I have lots of Labor Day Ideas such as Labor Day Fundraisers, flyers, cards and more. See below.

I also need everybody that will to pray for me on August 8, 2011. I will be having surgery on my neck (ruptured disc). I believe in your prayers and trust that you will say one for me on this day. I'm also asking that anyone with any questions or that needs to contact me after Aug. 8th waits until August 15th unless it is an emergency that can't wait. If emergency, I will get right back to them with my daughters help. Thank You in advance! :)

Labor Day Ideas

Labor Day is traditionaly a celebration of the working class, however it is more a mark of the end of summer now (I hope). Labor Day celebrations traditionally are held outside with swimming, fishing, cooking on the grill (barbeque), makes you hungry don't it.

Nothing spoils the celebration like bored children. Here are some Labor Day activities you might consider:

  • Make your Labor Day celebration a costume party, most people will be happy to participate. The decorations are easy to arrange evening draping large flays over trees, tables and chairs. Get patriotic cups, plates, napkins. Get the children to make their own costumes while the adults sit and watch the children make a parade for you. You can also include Labor Day Games which are on the Labor Day Activities page.
  • Labor Day Sitting Game that both the children and adults will have fun playing. The kids get in a circle and a player stands in the center. There is one spare chair, and the game is for this player to get possession of a vacant seat. When the game begins, everyone moves as quickly as possible to the chair next beside him/her, and as this is done all the time, it is difficult for the person who is looking for "lodgings" to find a place by slipping in among them, and his/her attempts will cause much amusement. Have everyone take turns at this game so no one is left to feel as though they are the target. You want everyone to go and think at the great time they had at the Labor Day celebration not dwell on a bad experience.
  • Labor Day Fundraisers/Flyers free to download and print for your church to raise money for whatever the need may be.
  • Labor Day Cards for the someone special in your life that deserves this Labor Day.

Labor Day History

History of Labor Day

The true meaning of Labor Day is to honor the everyday working people. The people whose sweat build and maintain the heart of the United States. Today Labor Day is as normal as baseball, apple pie and fireworks on the fourth of July, but this was not always so.

This holiday is to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations” of the community. Labor Day is also a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. Parades, festivals, barbecues, are the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Speeches by prominent men and women are given to emphasis the economic and civic significant of the holiday.

In the 1880’s labor organizations began to lobby various state legislatures for recognition of Labor day as an official state holiday. The first state to declare it a state holiday in 1887 was Oregon, Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. In 1894, Congress pass a law recognizing Labor Day as an official national holiday.

Labor Day has become recognized in the U.S. not only as a celebration of the working class, but also as the unofficial end of summer season. In the northern half of the U.S. the summer vacation season begins with Memorial Day and ends with Labor Day.

Offering Count Sheet

The Offering Count Sheet is free and can be used for your Secretary/Treasurer to count the church offerings.

The form has a place to:

  • Record bills (ones, fives, tens, etc.)
  • Record total coins
  • Record checks received (name, amount, check number)
  • Record offering from other ministries that would be included in the church deposit.
This will help your church treasurer or whomever is responsible for deposit to have accurate deposits.
