Labor Day History
Labor Day is a legal holiday in the United States of America. The first Monday in September it's celebrated as a day for America to honor it's workers.
Some local communities have Labor Day parades and sometimes their politicians give speeches. But the first Labor Day celebration in the United States wasn't about family and fun, instead, it was about how to make life better for America's working class.
Countries all over the world have labor day but not necessarily on the same day. Besides the U.S., Canada is the only country that observes Labor Day the first Monday in September. China, India and many European countries choose to honor workers on May 1st (International Worker's Day). New Zealand celebrates Labor Day on the 4th Monday of October. Australia allows states and territories to schedule their own observances.
