I have never being given this kind of responsibility before in a church, i joined the church sometime in June 2011, and on the 1st of the year i was given the post of a church secretary, the church is a small one, and as much as i want to contribute to the growth of this church i am so afraid of not being able to perform perfectly as the secretary, please what do you suggest i do?
When I was first given the opportunity to serve as Church Secretary in our church I was very scared also. After years of experience, it's a lot easier but still an ongoing experience - learning more everyday. A good productive Church Secretary will always work towards improving their job duties by getting latest software, etc. to save themselves time and assure accurate records, etc. for their church.
The first thing you need to do is read the Church Secretary job description from your church and see what your job duties include. Also, check to see if there is someone (last Church Secretary) who can help train you for a couple of weeks before you start on your own. If there is no one to help train you just simply do the best you can, believe me it will be fine - you will learn by trial and error.
