Mother's Day History
The Mother's Day origin goes back to era of the ancient Greek and Romans. The Mother's Day history roots can also be traced back to the United Kingdom where a Mothering Sunday was celebrated much before the festival saw the light of day in the United States. Thanks to Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis, hard working, pioneering women, for making sure the special day came into existence. Today Mother's Day is celebrated across 46 countries (though on different dates) and it is very much a popular celebration. Millions of people take advantage of this day to honor their mothers and thank them for their efforts in giving them life, raising them, and being their constant support and well wisher.
Julia Ward Howe was the first one to suggest Mothers Day in 1872. She had the idea of celebrating Mother's Day in the United States.
Anna Jarvis is known as the founder of Mother's Day in the United States. She never married or had any children, but she was also known as the Mother of Mother's Day, an apt title for the lady who worked hard to bestow honor on all mothers. Anna was inspired by her own mother during her childhood and this led to celebrating Mother's Day.
