Most any place in the church leadership ministry is not an easy place to be. Ministers of music are leaders working with people and mostly volunteers day in and day out. Always take time as a leader to do an extensive self-assessment on your leadership desires and abilities.
Directors of Music or Worship are very often called to balance the good of the many and the ministry against the good of the few, and at the same time, not forgetting that you are working with individuals who have feelings, issues, goals and many times agendas.
The Minister of Music Job Description (below) includes:
- Job Title - Minister of Music
- Reports To - Pastor
- Position Status - Full-Time
- Purpose -The
Minister of Music is responsible to the Pastor for the total music ministry of
the entire church.
- Responsibilities - 1. Direct
the planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating of a comprehensive music
program in preparing groups, soloists and choirs for internal and external
ministry. 2. Work with the ministerial staff on special music needs in the total church program. 3. Supervise the work of the music ministry staff. 4. Work
with the nominating committee to enlist and train leaders for the music
ministry. 5. Work
with the Pastor in selecting music for regular and special worship services –
including weddings, funerals and special projects. 6.Coordinate
the music program with the organizational calendar and emphases of the church. 7. Participate
in regular hospital and prospect visitation. 8.Monitor
the purchasing, maintenance and replacement of all music-related equipment,
supplies and instruments. 9. Keep informed on music methods, materials, promotion and administration. 10. Prepare an annual music budget for approval and administer the budget. 11. Direct congregational singing at all regularly scheduled worship services. 12. Cooperate with associational and state leaders in promoting activities of mutual interest.
